ABOUT THE REGION
Lake Sopot lies at the foot of the Balkan Mountains in northwestern Bulgaria, equidistant from the two regional cities of Lovech and Troyan (approximately 30 km from VERDE CHALET), and just 1.5 hours (120 km) from Sofia — 100 km of which are via the «Hemus» motorway.
Year-round tourism in the area is supported by:
- Cultural and historical landmarks: the towns of Troyan and Lovech with their centuries-old heritage, and two of the most visited monasteries in Bulgaria — Troyan Monastery and Glozhene Monastery
- Balneological resorts with hot mineral springs in the villages of Chiflik and Shipkovo (45 km from VERDE CHALET)
- Ski slopes within the Beklemeto Nature Reserve, including the best biathlon trail in the country
- Natural wonders: the Zlatna Panega River Reserve, Prohodna (Eyes of God) and Devetashka caves, and the Krushuna Waterfalls — some of the most impressive tourist attractions in Bulgaria
The region supports eco-friendly agriculture: 34 crop farms and 21 livestock farms operate in the two nearby provinces.
In the villages closest to VERDE CHALET, you can buy fresh, natural farm products.
The lake itself is home to more than 15 species of fish, which can be enjoyed in cozy lakeside eateries. In addition to fishing, motorized boating is also permitted here.
The surrounding forests and mountains are rich in waterfalls, caves, and rock formations, while numerous hiking trails provide opportunities to explore the full beauty of the region.
